Kusaal in Ghana

Size

Kusaal is a language spoken in the north eastern part of Ghana. It is one of the Oti-Volta languages and is closely related to Frafra (Gurune) spoken in towns such as Bolgatanga and Bongo, Tallensi (Talensi) spoken in Tongo, and Nabdan in Nangodi district, all in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The Kusasi are a large group with about 646,000 speakers, according to the University of Education, Winneba (https://uew.edu.gh>ba-kusaal.education). Kusaal speakers are found in towns such as Bawku, Pusiga and Garu, as well as in Burkina Faso. It is one of the languages studied in schools and at the University of Education, Winneba. It has a written grammar and and there is a growing body of scholarship on the language.
