Konkomba/Likpakpaln belongs to Gurma, a group of languages in northern Ghana that include Bimoba and Bassari. Konkomba is spoken to the east of Yendi (the seat of the Dagomba king, the Ya Na) in the Oti Basin. Konkomba is spoken principally in Saboba and Zabzugu, but also with a significant number of speakers in Togo. The Konkomba are known in Ghana for their cultivation of tubers, especially yam, as cash crops, so that the largest yam market in Accra, Ghana's capital city, has been named "Konkomba Market". Because they practice shifting cultivation, they have tended to move southwards in search of fertile land. Thus, today they can be found in areas that extend from Saboba in the Northern Region to Nkwanta in the Volta Region and parts of the Bono East and Brong Ahafo Regions.
